Chapada, Brasilia, São Paulo

hola gente!

e ai .. tudo beleza?

am in são paulo since two days. moved today from the hostal to frensh frie-guy, because i found it too expensive to stay some days in the hostal here. i knew some peolpe travelling who i am meeting in these days here, so they helped me to find somebody where i can stay and found this guy who makes couchsurfing and now i stay here in his apartment and i don’t have to worry about the expensive nights :-)

i feel very well in são paulo. it’s very modern, peolpe are more modern (clothes, look) and i have peolpe how show me around, just a petty that it is raining a lot. but i am chilled, so its ok. i am very emotional and looking forward to go back to rio at the weekend :-D

São Paulo seems a mix out of Buenos Aires, Quito, New York … and looking down from a huge building you just see buildings and buildings and buildings. incredilbe!

Brasilia was also very interesting. it was short but anough to get an idea. it’s veeery green and wide. it’s like a lot of villages with space between. eric, a guy i met in maracaípe picked us up (i travelled with neil, northern ireland) from the airport and showed us around and explained – veery sympatic!!

without car you can’t do much in this city. there isn’t any center, walking zone …

everything there is so new and correctly planned, and from the television tower you can see the symmetrie of the pilot body.

we spent the night in eric’s house with some of his friends, the next day i joint their capoeria class and then we just went straight to the chapada dos veadeiros because the weather was quite rainy.

one day in alto paraiso we walked to some waterfalls television-like!! we were almost alone and the water was just cristal green!

then we spent 2 days in são jorge, the little village at the nacional park entrance and made some hikes and nice daytrips. but the weather was very insecure so i headed straight to são paulo – my last overnight bus! ;-)

yes, my last destination, incredible! going back to rio :-) …hm. and today i knew that my loved samba de 4ta feira isn’t goiing on at the moment because of complaining of the neighbours :-( bah!

até logo, cheers, tudo de boa*carolina

sanddunes and maranhão

oi galera!

yes, em, i am in são luís, maranhão and tomorrow i have a flight to brasilia. neil from ireland and his nice accent will come with me. the created city with some different things liker other cities. everybody is asking you “why are you going there?”

well for me there were a few reasons … it was the cheapest way to go south – instead of passing foz du iguaçu, what my plan was – , i wanted to gop back to a chapada, a nacional park in the interior because i wasn t satisfied with ust the week in the chapada diamantina/bahia, and i met some guysfrom brasilia in maracaúpe and they told me a bit about the city and said they can show me around a bit.

well, it´s just a few things what the diffrence makes: i won´t find a old house in this young city, i won´t find native peolpe and the order and the names of the streets is diffrent. oscar niemayr built that city like a airplane. so you live in one of wings, or in the body …. and the governmental buildings occupy a certain part of the airplane ….

then i will meet peolpe from all the parts of brasil who went living there. from everywhere! will be an incredible mixture.

i don´t know if i will see and recognize all these things in just 2 or 3 days, but i try and will have an impression ;-) and i will pass the last days of my 7 month in the nature. it´s been weeks that i am on the coast. i will leave the sea  now. it´s just cities left. afterwards i will go to são paulo and then just heading back to rio. i miss it a lot now. well my friends there and the samba! it will be hard to say goodbye, but i will also love it going back at the 24.  to my beautiful room, my bed, my friends and my school. yeah, going back to complain “i miss brasil” ;-D

i had really nice weeks now. i really enjoyed the northeast. i also heard peolpe saying “further north you are going, as nicer it is”.

the last days i spent the time with giovanni from napoli and in the nacional park of lençois maranhenses we had a crazy nice day with the carioca flavio and the spanish david. will upload photos then.

peolpe are very nice and friendly and the landscape is beautiful. a lot of sanddunes, with green inbetween and cows, donkyes and horses …

i am always wondering again how talkactive peolpe are in this country. thats  what you get to feel every day and every where you go. mainly traveling alone or with peolpe also talking portugese.

i mean they just wanna talk all the time and about everything. about interesting and important things about their country, my country, the world, the economy, sustainable works … really interesting conversations until talking about daily stuff, problems, little happinesses … it doesn´t care were you are, – the toilet line, busstation, eating – always and everywhere somebody will speak to you.

ok, leaf you …

i am a bit confused, maybe i just write things dobble .. it´s a bit that i am in the internet.

tudo beleza, massa, take care, love and hugs,

carolina*

north-eastest

hello world!

am in natal, very north east of brasil (~5250 km to africa).  sitting at the busstation, waiting for my nightbus to fortaleza where i pick another bus to jericoacoara (it took me weeks to learn this word).

the last weeks have been very chill and veeery nice.

one week in the chapada diamantina, lençois, i enjoyed the beatiful inland. i think i uploaded photos. meet very nice people and had a great time, learned a lot about the regions and landscape change, and also about the circle of peoples life who end up in the favels. have been to an quilombo. thats the places where the sclaves went to start a new life as they made it to run away. obviously the went far from any civilisation, that they couldn´t be found. nowadays the familie are still living there. and as they don´t use condoms and stuff they make a lot of children, who can´t live in their little house living just from some vegetables, rice and manjoca. so one day they go to the cities, live in the favela to surch for a job and end up in the drug traffic.

that and more was very interesting for me to see, as i knew and saw how is things going in rio. now i know and saw also how it all begins and how they live there.

then i went to recife and stayed with thomas from my capoeria group in berlin. he and his girlfriend ute are making their doctor in recife and we passed some nice days together on the carneval in recife and olinda or chilled in their huge roof apartment.

rio guys do you know who i met there in recife? pedro from our school from the fibra guys! that was so cool! :-)

then i went with yvonne from cologne south to maracaípe (porto de galinhas). oh that was so nice. i went diving and hang around there for one week. met really nice girls. had a really great time. sleeping in the hammock 30 meters from the beach. water, sand, air, sun, stars, the moon and the ound of the waves. that was all about. sleeping early because waking up at 7.30 and just chill!

nicole and me started the tight-moon-mission*

the same then in pipa, between recife and natal. another surf spot, with a delfin beach too! very beautiful landscape, red cliffs, which i enjoyed with nicole from canada. built a new home with the hammocks under trees on a campsite and all we were was just happy – and tired at 11 in the evening!

we stopped the tight-moon-mission with the fullmoon*

nicole went south, i went with jean, a brasilian guy living in freiburg/germany north to natal were we rent a car yesterday and had a bit a strange, interesting, chaos day … went snorkeling and to the sand dunes …

the change of the landscape is amazing. it´s so cool to see how it gets diffrent. here now are beginning the sand dunes. and i´m so glad that on all of my trips i can speak with the peolpe. it´s so great and i´m learning a lot in the last few weeks … :-)

it´s the first time now since maracaípe that i´m not so frightent anymore. leef bags on the beach .. not more so paranoid .. :-D

hey i hope you are all good their outside!!

thank you for your mails guys! :-)

ohio – hau rein! i miss you too!

rio – saudades grandes de você. falta pouco e ja volto … :-)

have one hour left so i ll upload some pics..

paradies and salvador

Hallo!

carolin*

Hey there!

After our nice days in arraial d´ajuda with Barbara, max and india from Milan and our trips to caraíva and trancoso we headed further north to itacaré.

Here we met an old brasilian friend from giulia from her London times.

After all these cut touristy places we arrived in the paradise barra grande.

It´s like caraíva a village with sandy streets, but not yet so crowded with tourits. It´s one of the nicest beaches I have ever seen. You can walk from the beach taipú da fora 8 km to barra grande an meeting very less people. The beach is beautiful, a lot of palm trees and the water is fantastic! an amazing walk … in taipú da for a you can go snorkeling but I didn´t find it so good. But I think it depends on what you are used to. Giulia had a lot of fun playing with these strange fishes. As you came close to their reef one arrived and pick you in your leg. Sometimes they remembered that they were fishes and stopped and turned back. Hm! But also the craps aren´t so shy to the humans! .. seen our crap friend on the fotos …

Here in Salvador we stayed in the house of nico, a other friend of giulia who lives in rio vermelho with this beautiful view over the ocean. In fact i´m mainly chilling these days. Giulia went back to gray sad Milan, and i´m just sleeping, eating and enjoying.

Now I will move to an hostel to know the other side of Salvador and then I´ll go in the inland to chapada diamantina and afterwards heading to recife, where I will pass carneval in thomas´ place.

I hope you are fine guys!

sarah and Krista a lot of thoughts and sun for you,

Love carolin*

Hola gente,

Hm.

rio, ouro preto, bahia

Moin moin!

Alles liebe, caro*

Buon giorno tutti!

Hello out there,

the last time in rio was very nice. Christmas, ilha grande, at new years eve my friend giulia from milan arrived – after a big chaos. First she almost got into a flight to Salvador because there was another person with the same name, then they made her going to brasilia and then, finally she arrived late, but she arrived in rio. we met with my friends at 23.45 at copacabana to see the impressive fireworks all togehter. Incredibile! After showing giulia a bit around in rio, doing delta gliding in são conrado from pedra bontia (see flickr), and the last samba goodbye night we left rio. With my friend marta and cesar we went to ouro preto, minas gerais, 8 hours north of rio. Cesar showed us his beautiful mine city in the mountains. Then we took a 20 hours ride to bahia. We are in the house of a italian friend of giulia, who moved with her husband and daughter to the paradise arrail d’ajuda, south of porto seguro. This house is so beautiful, made everything with so much love that my interior-designer heart is beating high and i’m always more secure in what i will do! … the garden with all the animals sounds, hamacs, the small blond angle and the temporary flatmate from rio-favela rocinha. and then, it’s so incredibile to see that after just one day speaking only italian i’m thrown in this other world, my brain plays tricks on my. The portugese seems so far!! Hellooo!? We will pass the next days here, making trips to trancoso and caraiva and then heading up to itacaré where we meet another friend of giulia. Hiking in chapada diamantina and then giulias last station Salvador! Take care, cheers carolina*

finally i was on ilha grande for three days. i passed it with julia and jan-simon (from the berlin capoeira group). julia knows the island well so she showed us some hikes to diffrent beaches.

ilha grande is just a bit south of rio so you can reach it by bus and ship in about 4 hours.

it’s a famous tourist place and everyone calls it the paradise :-D

mapailha-grande.jpg

very interesting was Dois Rios. it’s a tiny village with an old prision which was closed in 1994.

all the houses there belong to the government. so now the houses are abandoned and are becoming beautiful and scary ruins. nowadays there is a research centre from the uerj (universidade do estado do rio de janeiro), so just people who are working there are living in Dois Rios (population: 50). there is one bus from the military police who brings the kids to the main village Abraão to school. this and a truck for collecting and stuff like that refuse are the only vehicles on the island.

it’s so diffrent there. you pass the lonely streets, some birds flying around, grass is high around the lonesome obelisk in the middle of the square. a ruin, and next to it a house with a young woman on the veranda smoking a sigarette. then the old prison also sorrounded with high grass, trash, fishbones left by the birds, 2 barkling dogs …

looking towards the sea you see this paradise beach with its sparkling turquese water …

ciao gicacchiati!

mamammia, che cosa che l’inverno sta facendo lassú quest’ anno!

state mi bene!

hello world,

what’s up there? in the most parts out there is deep winter :-O i hope you will pass it well!
here it is raining since a while, what really sucks because the city stands still then. well it moves though, but slowly … and i have to me in the ass that i do something because “all depends on the rain” here what you do, or if you do something. or if cou go to school. so its possible to get lazy fast – what i did this week. and it doesn’t feel well :-( so today it was finally a sunny day and i am in a good mood to do things tomorrow. this week should get better so finally we’ll make it to go to `ilha grande´, which is a bit south of rio.
the semester is one more month. it seems like i will finish it with just one project, which will be about bambus (will upload somepics on the blog or flickr). more i didn’t make. the sentence “claro, vamos fazer”, “yes, we do that” is used too much here, so you need a time to figure out who makes what he says or what does it mean when who says it – or you never figure out. so its hard to work productively. i try it now again for the last time to get things done, the problem is that you are depending always on somebody … and that takes time … ;-)
my enthusiasm in these period applies to the samba. i’ll take some pandeiro lessons. that’s so cool here that almost everybody is able to play an instrument. and if it’s just trianlge, or the sandy egg ;-) or just anything that makes part of the `roda de samba´. i hope i can wake up my small musical talents i’ve let gone ten years ago and turn back to germany with more than the capoeira toque. one of these evenings i was at fernandos and tais´ home and every two minutes they took out another intrument of that litte room and pushed it in someones hand. that’s so nice! :-D
there are some things left on the to do list here like paragliding, climbing up the sugarloaf and if there will be another nice weekend try again to go diving (last time the boat broke some hours before :-( ), and then the end of the rio time will come soon. christmas till new years eve i might travel. then at the 31.12. giulia from milan is arriving and we will heading north … bahia …

take care,
cheers*carolina

hooola amix,

cuidense!
un beso grande*carolina
